StoriesFly's TikTok video downloader takes the link of a public TikTok video, asks up to five resolvers in turn for links to the video's files, and gives you a download button for each one: on the clips we measured, HD was HEVC at 1080×1920 and SD was H.264 at 720×1280, and private videos cannot be fetched. Your browser downloads the file from the link itself, so the video never passes through our server.

Why fiveEach resolver is an outside service that fails on its own schedule, TikTok's page included. The page asks them in order and keeps score: a resolver that fails more than 5 of its last 10 lookups is moved to the back of the line for 10 minutes, so a broken one stops holding up the rest.
On our test clips, HD was HEVC and SD was H.264
These are the files behind each button on the public clips we measured with ffprobe on 28 September 2026. HD and SD follow the resolver's own names for the two files. Nothing on our side re-encodes, resizes or upscales the video, so what the resolver links to is what you get.
A different resolver, or a different post, can return other sizes. The page shows whatever buttons the answer contains, and hides views, likes and comments when the resolver does not report them.

What happens between the paste and the file
Four steps. Only the second one runs on our server.
- 01Your browser checks the linkIt has to be a full web address, starting with http:// or https://, that names tiktok.com. A bare @handle or a video number is turned away before anything is sent.
- 02Our server asks the resolvers in turntikwm first, then TikTok's own video page, countik, ddtik and tikmate. The first one that returns files ends the search. Nothing is cached, so every paste is a fresh lookup.
- 03The links come back as buttonsOne button per file the resolver found, HD first on this page, then SD and the MP3. The card above them shows the author, the caption and, when the resolver reports them, views, likes and comments.
- 04Your browser fetches the fileThe button opens the file's own link in a new tab, and in our test lookups that link was on TikTok's CDN. The bytes go from there to you. Our server only ever handled the link.
On our test clips the HD file was usually the smaller one
In the files we probed with ffprobe (HD on three clips, SD on two, all from one account), the HD button returned HEVC (H.265) at 1080×1920 and the SD button returned H.264 at 720×1280: two different encodings, not two sizes of one. HEVC fits a picture into fewer bits, so the bigger picture came in the smaller file on three of the four clips.
The cost is playback. HEVC needs support from both the browser and the device: caniuse.com/hevc lists Chrome, Edge and Firefox as partial, and Firefox before version 137 as none. If the HD file will not play, or an editing app refuses it, take SD. H.264 is the older codec and plays on more devices.

A short link rests on the first resolver
The share sheet in the TikTok app hands out short links. Only tikwm is known to open them, so when tikwm is down or cooling off a short link can fail where a full link would not. If that happens, open the short link in a browser, let it redirect to the full tiktok.com/@user/video/ address, and paste that.
All five can read it, so one failure still leaves four.
TikTok's own page cannot open a short link, and we have not tested the other three with one.
Links it takes, input it refuses, files it returns
The field only checks that the text is a web address naming tiktok.com. Whether a link resolves is up to the resolvers.
What the TikTok downloader cannot hand you
Most of these come from TikTok or from the resolvers, not from a setting we could change.
- 01Private, friends-only or removed videosNeither TikTok's signed-out page nor the resolvers serve them, so there is nothing to fetch. A failed lookup tries the whole chain before it gives up, which took about 24 seconds in our test when the chain had four resolvers (it has five now), and then shows a general error.
- 02Links that keep workingThe video links carried an expiry stamp about six hours after the lookup on the clips we checked, read from the link itself. A saved button stops working after that; paste the TikTok link again for fresh ones.
- 03A save dialog every timeThe file sits on another site, so browsers ignore our download hint, and TikTok's CDN sent no save-as header in our tests. The video usually opens in a new tab; save it from there with the browser's own download or share option.
- 04The same files from every resolverWhen tikwm fails, the next ones return less. Links of the kind TikTok's own page hands out were refused outside TikTok in our tests, and tikmate returns a single video file with no MP3 and no view count. tikmate's file link points to tikmate.app and countik's video link to v16.tokcdn.com, neither of them TikTok's CDN, and countik reports no views or likes. ddtik's counts are rounded, like 19.5M.
- 05Slideshow photosA photo post comes back as its pictures, one tile each, plus the post's sound. Only tikwm and ddtik return the pictures: countik returns none and passes the post on, TikTok's own page is not read for pictures, and tikmate has not been tried with one. We checked a single photo post, which had one picture.
- 06Lookups in a burstWe set no daily cap on this tool today, but the resolvers are outside services with their own limits. tikwm replies with a free-API limit message when it throttles, and a run of lookups can fail until the resolvers recover.
TikTok video downloads, answered
Is there a TikTok watermark on the video?
Not in the frames we inspected: one frame from the HD file and one from the SD file of a single clip showed no TikTok logo or username, and we did not scan the whole videos. tikwm, the first resolver, also returns a watermarked copy, and the page never uses it. If a later resolver answers instead, its SD link may be TikTok's own watermarked download.
What resolution will I get?
1080×1920 from the HD button and 720×1280 from SD, on the clips we measured. The page shows the files the resolver found and never upscales them.
Why won't the HD file play on my computer?
Most likely because it is HEVC (H.265), which some browsers and older devices cannot decode. The SD button gives you H.264, which plays on more devices.
Do I need a TikTok account?
No. Nothing on our side signs in to TikTok, and the page has no field for an account. TikTok's own video page, the second resolver, is read signed out.
Does the video pass through your server?
No. Our server finds the links and sends them to your browser as text, and the file downloads from the link's own host. The lookup writes nothing to our database, so we keep no copy and no history of what you pasted. The resolvers your link is sent to are outside services with their own logs.
Is there a limit on downloads?
Not from us: this tool has no daily cap today and needs no account. The resolvers are outside services with their own limits, so many lookups in a short burst can fail until they recover.
Can I download a video from a private account?
No. Private and friends-only videos are not served to the resolvers or to TikTok's signed-out page, so no request can reach them.
