what happens, top to bottomfile through our server: no

Why one fileYouTube serves Shorts as two streams, picture and sound. The engine joins them, so you get a normal MP4 that plays anywhere. Our 30-second sample came out at 4.2 MB.

01One file or two

YouTube serves two streams; you get one file

The joining is the only thing done to the file; the page adds no watermark of its own.

02What came back

480×854 on the Short we measured

We measured one 30-second Short on 26 October 2026. The file was MP4 with H.264 video at 480×854 and AAC audio. It weighed 4.2 MB and was ready in about a second.

The page asks for up to 720p. We have measured one Short, so we cannot say how often a Short comes back at 720p; what you get is what the engine can make from the streams YouTube offers for that video.

The same field takes a watch?v= link or a youtu.be link, not only a /shorts/ address. Only public videos can be read.

03Paste to file

What happens between the paste and the file

Four steps.

  1. 01The field checks the linkIt has to be a youtube.com/shorts, youtu.be or youtube.com/watch?v= address with a video id. A channel or a playlist is turned away.
  2. 02Our server asks the engineThe open-source engine, cobalt, is asked for the video at up to 720p, with sound.
  3. 03One button comes backA single MP4 with picture and sound. On our test Short this took about a second.
  4. 04Your browser opens the fileThe button opens the file link the engine made. Save it from there.

What was inside the test file

These are the numbers for one Short, not a promise for every video.

H.264 plays in every common browser and phone.

06Known gaps

What the Shorts downloader cannot hand you

Most of these come from YouTube or from the engine, not from a setting we could change.

  • 01Private or removed videosOnly public videos can be read. For a private or deleted one the page says there is nothing to download.
  • 02Quality above 720pThe page asks for up to 720p. The Short we measured came back at 480p.
  • 03Channels and playlistsThe field wants a link to one video. A channel or playlist address is refused before anything is sent.
  • 04The engine not answeringThe joining is done by a separate service. When it does not answer, the page tells you to try again in a minute.
07Before you paste

YouTube Shorts downloads, answered

Does the file have sound?

Yes. YouTube serves Shorts as separate video and audio streams, and the page joins them into one MP4. Our test file had AAC audio.

What resolution will I get?

The page asks for up to 720p. The 30-second Short we measured came back as 480×854, H.264, 4.2 MB.

Which links work?

youtube.com/shorts/ links, youtu.be/ links and youtube.com/watch?v= links to public videos.

Do I need a YouTube account?

No. The page has no field for an account and reads only public videos.

What does "an open-source engine" mean here?

The joining of video and audio is done by cobalt, an open-source downloader. The page sends it the link and hands you the result.

Is it free? Can I use it in Telegram?

It is free and needs no sign-up. The Telegram bot does the same: send it the link and the file arrives in the chat.

Copied a Shorts link? Paste it at the top.
