Why nothing goes through usThe file link Facebook's player hands out opens from any address, so our server only has to read the player and pass the link on. We relay no video and keep no copy. The link carries an expiry of about four days, so save the file now rather than the link.
How to download a Facebook video by link
Four steps. Only the second one runs on our server.
- 01Copy the link and paste itIn the Facebook app tap Share under the video or reel, then Copy link. On a computer copy the address from the browser bar. Reel, watch, page-video, fb.watch and /share/r/ or /share/v/ links all work; a link to a page, a profile or a story is turned away before anything is sent.
- 02Our server opens the video in Facebook's playerSigned out, the way the video would play on any site that embeds it. A short fb.watch or /share/ link is opened first to find the video behind it. If the video is friends-only, in a private group or deleted, the player shows nothing and the page says so.
- 03The file comes back as a buttonHD (720p on our test reel) when Facebook has it. If the HD file is over 20 MB, you get the SD file instead, so it can still go straight from Facebook to you and to our Telegram bot.
- 04Your browser saves the MP4The button opens Facebook's own file link on fbcdn.net. On iPhone, Android or a computer the MP4 lands in your downloads; on a phone you can then move it to the gallery or Photos.
Links it takes, input it refuses, files it returns
The field checks the shape of the address. Whether Facebook shows the video signed out is up to the video's privacy setting.
HD or SD: the files Facebook itself stores
For most public videos Facebook keeps two ready MP4 files with sound: an HD one and a smaller SD one. The page hands over one of those as it is. It does not re-encode, compress or upscale, and it adds no watermark of its own.
On 26 October 2026 we measured two public videos. An 11-second reel was 720×1280 and 8.1 MB in HD, 1.1 MB in SD. A 126-second video was 32 MB in HD and 4.9 MB in SD. Those are two videos, so take 720p as what we saw, not a promise for every upload.
The 20 MB line matters for long videos. Below it you get HD. Above it the page and the bot give you SD, which is roughly six times smaller in our tests and still has sound. A two-minute video at 720p usually crosses the line; a short reel usually does not.
Reels and ordinary videos work the same way: a facebook.com/reel/ link and a watch link go through the same player. Facebook Stories do not: Facebook only shows them to people who are logged in, and this page never logs in. Photo posts and albums are not supported either.
The file leaves Facebook and arrives at your browser
Our server's part ends once it has read the player and passed the file link on. That is also why an HD file over 20 MB is swapped for SD: a file that size could not go to Telegram by link and would have to pass through us.
Our server only reads the player. The MP4 is fetched by your browser from Facebook.
Facebook's file link opens from any address, so we do not need to carry the file.
What a Facebook video gives you
These are the answers for the reel we measured and for the page's own rules. Nothing on our side changes the file between Facebook and your browser.
The file link expires after about four days, because Facebook signs it with an end date. Download the MP4 when you get the button; to get the video again later, paste the Facebook link again.
On a phone it is often handier to use our Telegram bot: send it the Facebook link and the MP4 arrives in the chat, ready to save. StoriesFly also has tools for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, VK, Pinterest, Snapchat, Threads, X and Telegram stories.

What the Facebook downloader cannot hand you
Most of these come from Facebook, not from a setting we could change.
- 01Facebook StoriesFacebook shows stories only to logged-in viewers. The page never logs in, so a facebook.com/stories/ link gives nothing. This is a firm no, not a temporary error.
- 02Friends-only, private group and deleted videosIf Facebook does not show the video signed out, the page says there is nothing to download. We do not get around privacy settings.
- 03Photo posts and albumsOnly videos and reels. A link to a photo, an album or a whole page is not a video link.
- 04HD for long videosWhen the HD file is over 20 MB, you get SD instead. Nothing is upscaled, and there is no quality above what Facebook stores.
- 05An old file linkThe link to the file stops working after about four days. Paste the Facebook link again to get a fresh one.
Facebook video downloads, answered
How do I download a Facebook video by link?
Copy the video's link (Share, then Copy link), paste it into the field at the top and press the button. The MP4 comes straight from Facebook. No account and no sign-up.
Can I download Facebook Reels?
Yes. Paste a facebook.com/reel/ or a /share/r/ link. Reels come out as an MP4 with sound, 720×1280 in HD on the reel we measured.
How do I save a Facebook video to my iPhone or Android?
Open this page in your phone's browser, paste the link and tap the button; the MP4 goes to your downloads and from there to Photos or the gallery. Often easier: send the link to our Telegram bot and save the video from the chat.
What quality will I get, HD or SD?
HD when Facebook has it, 720p on our tests. If the HD file is over 20 MB, you get SD: a 126-second video was 32 MB in HD and 4.9 MB in SD.
Can I download Facebook Stories?
No. Facebook shows stories only to logged-in users, and this page never logs in. Public videos and reels only.
Can I download a video from a private group or a friends-only post?
No. Only videos that Facebook shows to anyone without logging in. Private groups, friends-only posts and closed profiles give nothing.
Is there a watermark? Does the video pass through your server?
No watermark is added: you get Facebook's own file as it is. It is downloaded by your browser from Facebook's file host, fbcdn.net; our server only reads the video's player.
Why does it say the video was not found?
Facebook showed no video to a signed-out viewer: the video is private, friends-only, in a closed group or deleted, or the link points to a page, photo or story instead of a video.
Is it free? Is there a Telegram bot?
It is free and needs no sign-up. The Telegram bot does the same: send it the Facebook link and the MP4 arrives in the chat.
