How do you download a video from X (Twitter)?
Copy the link to the post, paste it into the X (Twitter) video downloader and save the MP4 it gives you. You don't need an X account, a subscription or an app. It works for public posts only: if the account is protected or the post was deleted, there is nothing to save.
X itself has no download button for other people's videos in the regular share menu. Some Premium subscribers get a download option on videos whose author allowed it, but that covers only part of the videos and only inside the app. A post link works for any public video, and the file is yours to keep.
How to copy the link to a post
You need the link to the post itself, the one that looks like x.com/username/status/1234567890. Old twitter.com/... links work the same way.
- In the app (iPhone or Android): open the post, tap the share icon under it and choose Copy link.
- In a browser: open the post so it fills the page and copy the address from the address bar, or use the share icon and Copy link.
A profile link (x.com/username) won't do: the downloader needs to know which post you mean. If the video sits in a reply or a quote, open that exact post and copy its link, not the one from the thread above it. Anything after the question mark in the link, like ?s=20, can stay.
How to download a Twitter video on iPhone
- In the X app, tap the share icon under the post and choose Copy link.
- Open Safari and go to the twitter video downloader.
- Paste the link and press the button.
- Tap the download button next to the video. Safari asks whether to download the file: confirm.
- The video lands in the Files app, in the Downloads folder. Open it, tap the share icon and choose Save Video to move it into Photos.
If Safari opens the video in a player instead of downloading it, tap the share icon in the player and pick Save Video right there. On iPhone it's often quicker to use the Telegram bot (below): the video arrives in the chat and you save it to Photos with one tap.
How to download a Twitter video on Android
- Tap the share icon under the post and choose Copy link.
- Open Chrome, go to the downloader page, paste the link and press the button.
- Tap download. The file goes to the Download folder in internal storage.
- Most gallery apps pick it up on their own. In Google Photos look under Library, then the Download folder.
If nothing seems to happen, pull down the notification shade: Chrome shows download progress there. Some Samsung phones send downloads to My Files, then Downloads.
How to download a Twitter video on a computer
- Open the post on x.com and copy the address from the address bar.
- Paste it on the downloader page and press the button.
- Click download. The MP4 goes to your usual Downloads folder.
On a PC the browser sometimes plays the video in a new tab instead of saving it. Right-click the video and choose Save video as.
How to download a Twitter video through Telegram
Send the post link to @instanavy_bot and the bot replies with the video. It comes as a normal Telegram video: you can forward it, or open it and save it to your gallery from the menu.
- There's no daily limit for these links. If you send more than about 20 links in 10 minutes, the bot asks you to wait a few minutes.
- Telegram doesn't let bots send files bigger than 50 MB. If the best quality is too big, the bot sends a smaller version of the same video. For full quality, use the website.
- A post with several videos or photos comes back as separate files, up to 10 per link.
Phone, computer or bot: which to use
| Website on phone | Website on PC | Telegram bot | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where the file ends up | Files / Downloads, then Photos or Gallery | Downloads folder | The chat, then gallery in one tap |
| Quality | Best available | Best available | Best that fits in 50 MB |
| Good for | Saving one video quickly | Long videos, editing later | iPhone, keeping clips in one place |
Can you download GIFs from Twitter?
Yes, but you get an MP4, not a .gif file. X converts every GIF to a short silent video when it's uploaded, so the original GIF isn't stored anywhere. The MP4 plays on loop in most players and messengers. If you need a real .gif, for a forum signature say, run the MP4 through any video-to-GIF converter.
Photos from a post are saved in original size. A post with four photos, or photos and a video mixed, gives you each item separately.
What quality do you get?
The best version X stores for that video. The downloader doesn't upscale anything, so if the author posted a blurry phone recording, that's what you'll get. Videos uploaded long ago or reposted many times are often stored at lower resolution.
Why won't the video download?
- The account is protected. Protected posts are shown only to approved followers. A logged-out visitor can't see them, and neither can the downloader. Nothing can be done without the author.
- The post was deleted, or the account was suspended or deactivated. The video is gone from X. If the same clip was reposted by another account, try that post's link.
- The post is marked as sensitive or age-restricted. X shows such posts only to signed-in users, and these can't be downloaded.
- The post has no video of its own. Text-only posts have nothing to save. If the video is in a quoted post, open the quoted post and copy its link.
- It's a link card, not a video. A YouTube or news link inside a post plays from another site. Download it from that site: for YouTube Shorts there's the Shorts downloader.
- The link is a profile or a search page. Copy the link to the post itself, the one with
/status/in it. - The bot didn't send it. The file is over Telegram's 50 MB limit even in the smaller version. Open the website and download from there.
Is it OK to save someone else's videos?
Saving a video to watch later or keep for yourself is fine. If you want to repost it, ask the author first and credit them. Uploading someone else's video as your own can get your post taken down for copyright.
Does the author know I downloaded their video?
No. The downloader opens the public post the same way a logged-out visitor does, and your X account isn't involved. The author gets no notification and the download isn't counted as a like, repost or bookmark.
For other networks the steps are much the same: see how to download Threads videos and the TikTok video downloader.
FAQ
Can I download a Twitter video without a Premium subscription?
Yes. Copy the post link, paste it into the X (Twitter) video downloader and save the MP4. You don't need an X account or any subscription. Premium's own download option works only for some videos where the author allowed it, while a post link works for any public video.
Where does a downloaded Twitter video go on iPhone?
Into the Files app, in the Downloads folder. Open the file, tap the share icon and choose Save Video to put it in Photos. If you use the Telegram bot instead, the video arrives in the chat and you save it to Photos from the video's menu.
Why does a Twitter GIF download as MP4?
X converts every GIF into a short silent video when it's uploaded and doesn't keep the original GIF. So the file you get is an MP4 that loops in most players. If you need a real .gif, convert the MP4 with any video-to-GIF converter.
Can I download videos from a protected X account?
No. Posts from protected accounts are visible only to followers the author has approved. The downloader sees X the way a logged-out visitor does, so it can't open them. The same goes for deleted posts and posts X shows only to signed-in users.
Is there a Telegram bot for downloading Twitter videos?
Yes, @instanavy_bot. Send it the post link and it replies with the video, photos or GIF. Telegram caps bot files at 50 MB, so if the best quality is larger the bot sends a smaller version. For the full-quality file, use the website.
Will the author see that I saved their video?
No. The download doesn't use your X account, so it doesn't show up anywhere: no notification, no like, no view tied to your name.
