# Instagram MCP server

Connect StoriesFly to ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor and the assistant can read live public Instagram data when you ask: profiles, posts, reels, stories, highlights, comments, followers and following, hashtags and search. You paste one address and sign in with Telegram. No code, and you never log in to Instagram.

## What it looks like in the chat

You ask in plain words. The assistant picks the tools, fetches the numbers and answers in the chat. Below is a sample conversation with sample numbers: an influencer check before an ad deal.

## What the assistant can pull from Instagram

The server gives the assistant 15 Instagram tools and one download tool that covers both networks. Each call uses requests from your allowance; the last column shows how many. The tool `account_status` shows what is left and costs nothing.

Lists such as followers, posts and comments come a page at a time, and the assistant asks for the next page only when the question needs it.

| Tool | What it returns | Try asking | Cost |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `user_profile` | The public profile of an Instagram account. | “How many followers and posts does @competitor have, and is the account verified?” | 1 request |
| `user_posts` | An account's posts and reels, newest first, a page at a time. | “List @competitor's last 20 posts with likes and comments.” | 1 request per page |
| `user_reels` | An account's reels, newest first, a page at a time. | “Which of @creator's reels got the most views?” | 1 request per page |
| `user_stories` | The stories an account has up right now, with the media link, time and duration of each. | “Does @brand have stories up right now? What do they show?” | 1 request |
| `user_highlights` | An account's highlights. | “What highlights does @brand keep on its profile?” | 1 request per page |
| `story_highlight` | One highlight by its id or link. | “Open this highlight link and describe each story in it.” | 1 request |
| `post_info` | One post or reel in full. | “Break down this post: caption, likes, comments and views.” | 1 request |
| `post_comments` | The comments on a post, a page at a time. | “Read the comments under this post and sum up what people ask.” | 1 request per page |
| `post_likers` | Accounts that liked a post. | “Show me some of the accounts that liked this post.” | 1 request |
| `user_followers` | The accounts that follow an account, a page at a time. | “Show the first page of @brand's followers.” | 1 request per page |
| `user_following` | The accounts an account follows, a page at a time. | “Which accounts does @creator follow?” | 1 request per page |
| `search_users` | Finds accounts by name or username (q), a page at a time. | “Find accounts about vegan skincare.” | 1 request per page |
| `hashtag_info` | A hashtag's id, name and how many posts use it. | “How many posts use #veganskincare?” | 1 request |
| `hashtag_posts` | Posts under a hashtag, a page at a time. | “Show the top posts under #veganskincare.” | 1 request per page |
| `search_reels` | Finds reels for a text (q). | “Find reels about a morning routine.” | 1 request per page |
| `download_media` | The files of one post by its link. | “Give me the download links for this post or video.” | 1 request |

## Connect it in a minute

The server's address is `https://storiesfly.com/mcp`. In ChatGPT or Claude, add it as a connector (a custom MCP server) and sign in with Telegram when you are asked. Cursor takes the same address in its MCP settings.

In Claude Code, one command does it: `claude mcp add --transport http storiesfly https://storiesfly.com/mcp`.

The tabs below show the steps for each app.

## What it costs

- Free: 100 requests, once per Telegram account. The same free requests as the API, no card.
- Basic, $4.99 a month: 100 requests a month. The StoriesFly Basic subscription.
- Pro, $19.99 a month: 500 requests a month. The StoriesFly Pro subscription.
- Prepaid balance: from $10, $1.50 per 1,000 requests, with no monthly cap. The balance never expires. See [all the plans](https://storiesfly.com/developers/mcp#plans).
- A profile analysis takes about 10 requests.

## What it cannot do

- It reads public Instagram accounts only. For a private account the assistant tells you so, and that look-up counts as one request.
- It cannot post, like, follow or send messages, and it does not show who viewed a story.
- You never log in to Instagram with your own account, and your own account never appears among the story's viewers.

## Docs and next steps

Every tool is one endpoint of the StoriesFly API, so the same data is available from code: [user/profile](https://storiesfly.com/developers/docs/user-profile), [user/posts](https://storiesfly.com/developers/docs/user-posts), [user/stories](https://storiesfly.com/developers/docs/user-stories), [post/comments](https://storiesfly.com/developers/docs/post-comments) and [user/followers](https://storiesfly.com/developers/docs/user-followers). To read TikTok from the same chat, see the [TikTok MCP server](https://storiesfly.com/developers/tiktok-mcp). ## Questions developers ask

### What is an Instagram MCP server?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard way to plug a tool into an AI assistant. An Instagram MCP server lets ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor ask for live public Instagram data in the middle of a chat and work with it. StoriesFly's server is at `https://storiesfly.com/mcp`.

### Does it work with ChatGPT and Claude?

Yes. Add the address as a connector in ChatGPT or Claude, or to Cursor or Claude Code, and sign in with Telegram. The steps for each app are on this page and on the [AI assistants page](https://storiesfly.com/developers/mcp).

### Can the assistant read private Instagram accounts?

No. Only public accounts. When an account is private, the assistant tells you so, and that look-up counts as one request.

### Will my own Instagram account show up among the viewers of a story?

You never log in to Instagram with your own account, and your own account never appears among the story's viewers.

### How many requests does a profile analysis take?

About 10: the profile, two pages of posts, a page of reels, the stories, the highlights and four pages of comments. The 100 requests free requests cover about 10 of them.

### What does it cost?

100 requests are free, once per Telegram account. After that, Basic is $4.99 a month for 100 requests a month, Pro is $19.99 a month for 500, and a prepaid balance from $10 costs $1.50 per 1,000 requests with no monthly cap. A call that was not made is not charged.

### Do I need an Instagram account, a Meta app or a review?

No. You need a Telegram account to sign in. To compare it with Instagram's official API, see [Instagram API without login](https://storiesfly.com/developers/instagram-api-without-login). The data is the public Instagram data of the accounts you name.
