## Can you view Telegram stories anonymously?

Yes, in two ways. Inside the app, Telegram Premium has a stealth mode that hides your views for a short window. Outside the app, you can open a public account's stories in the [Telegram story viewer](/telegram-story-viewer) by its @username: your Telegram account isn't used, so your name doesn't appear in the viewers list. Both only work for what you could see anyway. Stories shared with contacts, close friends or a selected list can't be opened anonymously by anyone.

## Does Telegram show who viewed your story?

Yes. The author of a story sees a list of the people who watched it. If you open someone's story in the app the normal way, your name lands in that list. Muting someone, hiding their stories from your bar or adding them to contacts changes nothing about this: those settings affect what you see, not what they see about you.

So the question is only which tool keeps your name out of the list, and what each one can reach.

| Method | What you need | Whose stories | How long you stay hidden |
|---|---|---|---|
| Premium stealth mode | Paid Telegram Premium | Anything you can normally see | 5 minutes back, 25 minutes ahead |
| Web viewer by @username | A browser, no login | Public accounts and channels, stories for "Everyone" | Always, your account isn't involved |
| Bot [@instanavy_bot](https://t.me/instanavy_bot) | Telegram | Same as the web viewer | Same as the web viewer |

## How does Telegram Premium stealth mode work?

Stealth mode is a Premium feature. When you turn it on, Telegram removes your views from the last 5 minutes and hides the views you make in the next 25 minutes. It's in the story viewer itself: open any story, open its menu and look for Stealth Mode.

What it does well: it covers every story you're allowed to see, including friends-only and close-friends stories of your contacts, because you're still you, just hidden.

What it doesn't do:

- It isn't permanent. After the 25 minutes run out, views count again.
- It costs a Premium subscription. Without one the option isn't available.
- The 5-minute look back is short. If you watched a story an hour ago, stealth mode won't remove that view.

If you watch one particular person regularly and they post for contacts only, stealth mode is the only honest option. For public accounts there's a free one.

## How do I watch Telegram stories anonymously without Premium?

Use the web viewer. You type the @username and it shows that public account's current stories. You don't sign in to Telegram, so your account isn't part of it.

1. Find the person's or channel's username. In their profile it's shown as @username; a link looks like `t.me/username`.
2. Open the [Telegram story viewer](/telegram-story-viewer).
3. Paste `@username` or the `t.me/username` link and press the button.
4. The current stories appear, photos and videos, each with a download button.

No sign-up and no Telegram login are needed. It works on a phone or a computer in any browser.

Channels post stories too, and they open the same way: paste the channel's @username.

## How to watch Telegram stories anonymously through the bot

If you'd rather stay inside Telegram, send the `t.me/username` link or the @username to [@instanavy_bot](https://t.me/instanavy_bot). It replies with the account's current stories as normal Telegram photos and videos. Your account isn't involved here either, so your name doesn't appear in the viewers list.

Two limits worth knowing. Telegram doesn't let bots send files over 50 MB, so a very long video story may not come through; open it on the website instead. And if you send more than about 20 links in 10 minutes, the bot asks you to wait a few minutes.

## Which Telegram stories can't be viewed anonymously?

Be realistic here, because many sites promise more than is possible.

- **Stories for "My contacts", "Close friends" or "Selected" people.** The author chose who sees them. Only those people can open them, and only from their own accounts. The web viewer and the bot can't, and no other site can either. Stealth mode works here if you're on the list.
- **Accounts without a public @username.** Without a username there's no public address to open. A phone number isn't enough.
- **Expired stories.** A Telegram story lives 6, 12, 24 or 48 hours, depending on what the author picked (24 is the default, the other options are for Premium). After that it's gone from the public view.
- **Deleted stories.** Once the author removes it, nobody can open it.

If the viewer shows no stories for an account you know is posting, the stories are almost certainly for contacts only. They look exactly like "no stories" from the outside.

## How to download Telegram stories

**Someone else's public story.** Open it in the [Telegram story viewer](/telegram-story-viewer) and press the download button under the photo or video. On iPhone the file goes to the Files app (Downloads folder); open it, tap Share and choose Save Video or Save Image to put it in Photos. On Android it lands in Downloads and usually shows up in the Gallery on its own. On a computer it goes to your Downloads folder. In the bot, the story arrives as a regular Telegram video or photo: open it, tap the three dots and save it to your gallery.

**Inside the Telegram app.** Whether you can save someone else's story depends on the author. Telegram lets authors stop others from taking screenshots and saving their stories, and in that case the app won't give you a save option. Don't count on the app for other people's stories.

**Your own story.** Open it, tap the three dots and use the save option to put it in your gallery. Stories you posted also stay in your stories archive after they expire, so you can find old ones there.

## Is it okay to watch and save someone's stories?

Watching a public story is what it was posted for. Saving it for yourself is fine; reposting it is a different matter. Ask the author before you publish their photo or video anywhere, and credit them when you do.

If you watch other networks too, the same approach works for [VK stories](/blog/how-to-view-vk-stories-anonymously) and [TikTok stories](/blog/how-to-view-tiktok-stories-anonymously).

## FAQ

### Can the author see that I watched their story through the web viewer?

No. The viewer doesn't use your Telegram account, so your name doesn't appear in the story's list of viewers. This only works for public accounts and stories posted for "Everyone".

### What happens if I view a story with stealth mode?

Your views from the 5 minutes before you turned it on are removed, and views in the next 25 minutes aren't shown to authors. After that window, your views are visible again. Stealth mode needs Telegram Premium.

### Can I watch close friends or contacts-only stories anonymously?

Not through any outside tool. Only the people the author picked can open those stories. If you are one of them, Premium stealth mode can hide your view for its 25-minute window.

### Why does the viewer say there are no stories?

Either the account has no current stories, its stories are limited to contacts or close friends, or it has no public @username. Stories also disappear after 6 to 48 hours, depending on what the author chose.

### Can I download Telegram stories without Premium?

Yes, for public accounts. Paste the @username into the Telegram story viewer and press download under the story, or send the link to @instanavy_bot and save the file it sends back.

### Does adding someone to contacts or hiding their stories make me invisible?

No. Those settings change what you see in your app. If you open the story normally, your name still appears in the author's viewers list.
