## Is there an app to watch Instagram stories anonymously?

Not in the usual sense. Many story viewer apps in the App Store and Google Play ask you to sign in with Instagram, and an app that watches stories through your account can't promise to keep you hidden and puts that account at risk. The options that work without an Instagram login are a viewer website added to your home screen, or a Telegram bot such as [@instanavy_bot](https://t.me/instanavy_bot?start=web_blog) that opens a full viewer inside Telegram. Both work on iPhone and Android.

## Why many viewer apps ask for your Instagram login

Instagram only shows stories to people who are signed in. Its website follows the same rule as its app ([how the two differ otherwise](/blog/instagram-web-vs-app-differences)), so switching to a browser doesn't help while you're logged in. The easiest way for a third-party app to show you stories is to borrow your session: you log in once, and the app browses Instagram as you.

That setup has three problems:

- **You aren't anonymous by default.** Every request comes from your account. Whether your name shows up among a story's viewers depends on whether the app sends Instagram's "seen" signal, and you have no way to check what it does.
- **A stranger holds your login.** Your password or session sits on servers run by a developer you know nothing about. If that service is breached or sold, your account goes with it.
- **Instagram may flag it.** Logins from third-party tools often look like automation. Accounts used this way can run into security checks, forced password resets or temporary restrictions.

Apps that don't ask for a login usually work like viewer websites, fetching stories through their own servers, so they add little beyond an icon on your home screen. The [safety guide to anonymous viewers](/blog/anonymous-instagram-viewer-safety-guide) covers the other warning signs.

## Store app, website or Telegram bot compared

StoriesFly isn't in the App Store or Google Play. It runs as a website and as a Telegram bot, so the table puts those two next to the common login-based store app.

| | Store app with Instagram login | Viewer website (StoriesFly) | Telegram bot (@instanavy_bot) |
|---|---|---|---|
| What you install | An app from the App Store or Google Play | Nothing, or a home-screen shortcut if you want one | Nothing beyond Telegram |
| Instagram login | Required | Never asked for | Never asked for |
| Can you appear as a viewer | Depends on the app | No, your account isn't used | No, your account isn't used |
| Signing in to the service | Through Instagram | Optional: email code, Google or Telegram | Automatic, with your Telegram account |
| Saving stories | Varies by app | Files download to your device | Photos and videos arrive in your chat with the bot |
| Alerts | Varies by app | Browser push or email | Telegram messages |
| Where it works | The phone it's installed on | Any browser: iPhone, Android, computer | Telegram for iPhone and Android |
| Paying | Store subscription | Card, crypto or TON | Telegram Stars, card, crypto or TON |

The website and the bot share the same plans. The free plan gives you 10 story views, 50 downloads and 5 highlight views a day with no payment details, and paid plans start from $4.99/month. Without an account, the website limits lookups per hour; in Telegram you're always signed in, so your daily allowance follows your account. You can try the [anonymous story viewer](/instagram-story-viewer) on the website without signing up.

## How to add a viewer website to your home screen

A website pinned to your home screen opens in its own window without the browser bars, so day to day it behaves much like an app. It also never needs a store update, because it loads the current version each time.

On Android, in Chrome:

1. Open the website.
2. Tap the three-dot menu next to the address bar.
3. Tap **Add to home screen**, then **Install**.

On iPhone, in Safari:

1. Open the website.
2. Tap the three-dot button next to the address bar, then **Share**. On iOS versions before 26, tap the Share button in the toolbar instead.
3. Scroll down and tap **Add to Home Screen**.
4. Leave **Open as Web App** switched on and tap **Add**.

## Why a Telegram bot works like an app without being one

If Telegram is already on your phone, a bot gives you most of what an app would, with no extra install. Open [@instanavy_bot](https://t.me/instanavy_bot?start=web_blog), press **Start** and tap **Open App**. The full StoriesFly viewer opens inside Telegram, the same one as on the website. You're signed in with your Telegram account automatically: no signup form, no email, no password, and no Instagram login at any point.

A few things make it feel like an app:

- **Messages work as notifications.** On paid plans, tracker alerts about new stories and follower changes arrive as ordinary Telegram messages, each with a **View** button that opens the right page. Names of new followers and unfollowers are included when the lists fit your plan's limits; bigger accounts get count changes only. Checks run on a schedule, so expect a new-story alert within a few hours rather than the moment it's posted, and follower changes can take longer. There is also a free "tell me when it goes public" alert for a private account: StoriesFly re-checks it about once a week for up to six months and messages you if it opens up.
- **Saving goes to your chat.** In the Telegram version, **Download** turns into **Send**. The photo or video arrives in your chat with the bot, where you can save it or forward it, and **Send to Telegram** sends all of a profile's current stories at once. Videos over 50 MB aren't sent.
- **Quick lookups from the chat.** Send the bot an Instagram @username or a profile link and it replies with that profile's newest story, plus a button that opens the rest. In any other chat, you can type @instanavy_bot followed by a username to share a link to that profile's stories. If nothing appears after typing, open the bot and send the username there instead.
- **It fits into Telegram.** The viewer follows Telegram's light or dark theme and your Telegram language, and its Account page can add a home-screen shortcut if your Telegram version supports it.
- **Paying stays in Telegram.** You can pay with Telegram Stars, a card, crypto or TON without leaving the app. Monthly Stars plans renew automatically, and /cancel in the bot stops the renewal.

Paste a reel or post link into the chat and the bot sends the video or photo back. The welcome message and menus are in English. The viewer works in the Telegram apps and in Telegram Web in a browser. For a longer walkthrough, see [Telegram Mini Apps for Instagram](/blog/telegram-mini-apps-instagram-tools).

## What to check before installing any viewer app

If you still want a store app, a few minutes of checking can save your account:

1. **Login.** If it asks for your Instagram username and password, or sends you to an Instagram login screen, it isn't anonymous. Skip it.
2. **Permissions.** A story viewer needs nothing beyond permission to save to your photos when you ask it to. Requests for contacts or location are a bad sign.
3. **Subscription terms.** Check whether the price is per week or per month, and what happens when a trial ends. Store subscriptions are cancelled in your App Store or Google Play settings, and deleting the app doesn't cancel them.
4. **Reviews.** Search the reviews for words like "banned", "locked", "suspended" or "password". A few of those say more than a high star rating.
5. **Private-account promises.** An app that claims to show private stories is either misleading you or after your login. Private stories are visible only to followers the owner has approved.

## FAQ

### Are Instagram story viewer apps safe?

Apps that ask for your Instagram login are the risky kind: they aren't reliably anonymous, and they put your account in a stranger's hands. Apps and websites that only need a public username don't touch your account, and the risks left are ads, fake download buttons and subscription terms.

### Is there an anonymous story viewer for iPhone?

Yes, though not as an App Store app that logs in to Instagram. On iPhone you can add a viewer website to your Home Screen from Safari, or use a Telegram bot such as [@instanavy_bot](https://t.me/instanavy_bot?start=web_blog) in the Telegram app. Neither asks for your Instagram account.

### Can any app show private Instagram stories?

No. Private stories are shown only to followers the owner has approved. StoriesFly's paid Private Viewer doesn't get around this: it sends a follow request from a StoriesFly account, and you see the content only if the owner accepts.

### Why was my Instagram restricted after using a viewer app?

Most likely the app used your login and Instagram flagged the activity as automated or unusual. Change your password, log out of any sessions you don't recognize in Instagram's security settings, turn on two-factor authentication, and stop using apps that need your login.
